Operations Management

Operations can be looked at as the ongoing conversion of resources into desirable outputs.

The resources (process inputs) fall into one of 4 categories:

  • human resources
  • physical assets
  • financial resources
  • information resources

A key and often overlooked aspect of operations management is the long term sustainability of the process. If the output is created just once, it is by definition a project. An operation need to be sustainable and continue to produce the outputs indefinitely. This points to how critical life cycle management is for each of the resources in the process.
